About

Hello, and welcome to Bad Good Musical Instrument Techniques (badgoodMIT). My name is Peter Duncan and I am the author of this original concept concerning Instrumental Techniques involving a wide range of instruments.

This comprehensive series of books focuses on core techniques that are essential to get right when learning any instrument.

These books will prove invaluable to you and ensure you avoid bad habits and embrace and learn strong approaches.

Eleven different instruments are included, as shown in the illustration on the Home Page.

The areas covered include posture (whether sitting or standing), right and left-hand technique, right and left foot technique along with mouth/ embrouchure/ tongueing approaches for woodwind instruments.

Breathing and diaphragm skills are also included especially for vocalists (Bad Vocals Good Vocals).

The technique points discussed are all illustrated via colour – coded diagrams...red backgrounds equate to ‘bad technique’ whilst a correcting picture within a green background corresponds to ‘good technique’...hence, Bad Good Musical Instrument Techniques.

The books are all supported by either audio demonstrations or videos which are all available via this website...please see ‘Audio Demonstrations and Videos’ page.

Consequently, these books are an excellent resource for teachers, their students and even self-learners.

There are other books within the badgood MIT series which run alongside the main technique

publications.

Most notably, ’50 Easy Tunes for Guitar’. This is a repertoire of easy, completely original songs for beginner/ improver guitarists.

Ideal for Teachers, students and even self-learners. Please see the ‘Other Books’ link above for more information.

The first book, 'Bad Guitar Good Guitar' is based purely on the Classical Guitar style and was written entirely by myself.

The subsequent editions are collaborations between myself and various talented musicians I have gigged with or met via my teaching career.

I'm confident you'll get a lot of mileage from these publications which will give you a very firm foundation on which to build as you progress through your musical journey.

Good Luck, Peter Duncan 2020
